origin of my name!

my name is fetty.. kan.. as u shud knw... and its after my parent's fren aunty (f)etty... so became fetty.. anyhow.. she's burmese... so my name is burmese of origin

so anyway.. iv been reading the glass palace for ages now. (as you should knw, i am not a fast reader, nor am i really into reading).. and on my to london on the train.. managed to read a couple of chapters... and... i finally knew siapa this FIRST Fetty was...

Fetty (in the book her name was spelled as Fatty) was the first grandchild of King Thebaw. The burmese king who was de-throned and lived in india.. but yea... so there you go.. i found out AT LAST!!! im named after a Princess' daughter... tho, bapa si FATTY is not royal at alll ;p

anyway, in london, as i was in the bayswater the tube station.. waiting for the overly delayed tube to take me to kings cross so i can get my train to dundee, i met up with siah and two frens... so this girl was introduced to me.. and siah said my name was fetty... this girl kinda looked familiar.. but then, any bruneian would look familiar.. especially if you see them around in gadong...

then this girl went to me and said "oh, i think u r uyon's fren" and i thought.. can't be "i think uyon is my cousin's fren, not mine" so ia memajal... "but uyon has mentione Fetty before".. skali both siah and i looked at each other. so i said to this girl "i think uyon meant Brisbane Fetty"

man.. i am almost ALWAYS confused with this Fetty ;p hehehe.. sigh.. and to think we knew of each other's existence since primary school!!!

anyhow.. since this girl looked kinda outa place.. macam insecure.. i made polite conversations... "are you new in belfast"
"yes"
"are you in first year then? what course are you doing?"
"no. im in second year. doing *****" whatever it was ;p
"how come"
yada yda dyda...

then she said
"i bet u r doing medicine"
"yes, i am"
"oh i thought so.. you look like uv been here a long time." ( i didn't know how to react to that.. like what was i supposed to say? what did that phrase mean!!!)
"then i said, im only in my 2nd year uni..." (hoping she wudnt knw that meant its my fourth year here!
skali ia diam...

and then she spoke again
"so i bet ur name must be fatimah"
"no its fetty"
"no, i mean ur name must be fatimah. fetty short for fatimah"
at this point, saya sasak... and looked at siah and looked helpless
so, Siah said
"no, her name is Fetty, Not short for anything"

sigh... that was the FIRST bruneian who said my name must be short for fatimah right to my face!!! the first first person who made me realise that a fatimah would refer herself as fetty was the ustaz who MOE made talk to us about maintaining iman and islamic ways.. WAAYYY in 2001.. sigh
